Before my parents knew if I was a boy or girl, they had a little list. On it were names like Girl: Lucida, Lisette, Coco, Dot and Hazel. Boy: Lucifer (dodged a bullet there), Clovis, Herdman and Levi. One day they were rolling through the Art Institute and noticed a Cy Twombly exhibit. His name was huge on the wall and they both liked the way it looked and that it was super short and easy- I will appreciate that when I'm learning to write my name. My daddy has 4 names and hated writing all those letters over and over and over for the nuns.
My middle name comes from family. My mommy decided to name my middle name for her Uncle Jim, or UJ. His middle name is Herdman. It is from the Scott side of the family (that is the name and also the country, Scotland). Turns out mommy's uncle and his grandpa have the same name, and it goes back generations. A way back Herdman Scott was a carriage crest painter. This Herdman also painted a family crest for his own family, painted on glass and held in possession by UJ.
The last name is my daddy's birth last name and his mother's maiden name, Mundy. This name is of English descent, I've got that island covered.
This name, Cy Herdman Mundy, stuck for months and people seemed to like it. So when the lady at the hospital from the birth certificate people came around, that is what was written, and so it will be done.
Love ya,
Cy Herdman Mundy
